📖 About This Campground

Cowboy Camp Campground, nestled within the expansive public lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management in Northern California, offers a pristine and tranquil camping experience. The campground is set against the backdrop of the rugged Coast Range, providing campers with stunning views of rolling hills and open skies. The site’s secluded location ensures a peaceful retreat, ideal for those seeking to escape the hustle and bustle of daily life. The campground features 7 well-maintained campsites, each equipped with picnic tables and fire rings. The spacious sites are suitable for tents and small RVs, providing a versatile camping experience. However, the campground does not offer water or electrical hookups, so campers should come prepared with their own supplies. Vault toilets are available on-site, maintaining a basic yet comfortable level of convenience for visitors. One of Cowboy Camp’s main attractions is its access to numerous outdoor activities. The area is crisscrossed with trails that are perfect for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking, allowing campers to explore the diverse landscapes at their own pace. The nearby Cache Creek provides opportunities for fishing, swimming, and kayaking, adding to the variety of recreational options available. Wildlife enthusiasts will find Cowboy Camp particularly appealing, as the region is home to a wide array of animal species. Birdwatchers can spot hawks, eagles, and other raptors soaring above, while the more observant visitor might catch glimpses of deer, wild turkeys, and even the occasional bobcat. The campground’s remote location offers excellent stargazing opportunities. With minimal light pollution, the night sky comes alive with stars, providing a breathtaking celestial display. This feature makes Cowboy Camp an ideal spot for amateur astronomers and anyone looking to enjoy the natural beauty of the night sky. Cowboy Camp is also known for its historical significance. The area was once inhabited by Native American tribes, and evidence of their presence can still be found in the form of ancient artifacts and rock art. Exploring these cultural remnants adds an educational aspect to the camping experience, allowing visitors to connect with the rich history of the region. The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, making it accessible to spontaneous adventurers. However, it is essential for campers to follow Leave No Trace principles to preserve the pristine environment. This includes packing out all trash, respecting wildlife, and minimizing impact on the natural surroundings. For those interested in extending their stay beyond the campground, the surrounding public lands offer additional attractions. The nearby Cache Creek Wilderness Area and Snow Mountain Wilderness provide further opportunities for exploration and adventure, with extensive trail systems and diverse ecosystems. In summary, Cowboy Camp Campground offers a unique and enriching camping experience, characterized by its natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and historical significance. Whether you are looking to hike, ride, fish, or simply relax under the stars, Cowboy Camp provides an ideal setting for an unforgettable outdoor adventure.

VERY primitive, but it is gorgeous and quiet. The campgrounds at Arches were full, so we stumbled upon this place and it was excellent for our 2-night stay. Sunsets and sunrises were spectacular.
