What campers say
Council Grounds State Park is a compact, well-maintained campground set along the Wisconsin River and Alexander Lake, offering wooded sites with water access, a small sandy beach, and about five miles of hiking that connect to nearby recreational trails. Many sites are roomy and shaded; electrical hookups are available (mostly on the inner loop). New shower and restroom buildings are frequently praised, though a few visitors reported less-maintained pit toilets near the beach. Canoe/kayak launch and rentals, fishing, and picnic areas make it family-friendly. Note that some sites are narrow and may be tight for larger RVs, and town services are a short drive away.
