Cedarville State Forest is a compact, accessible woodland campground south of DC with well-maintained campsites offering fire rings, picnic tables, electrical hookups and convenient garbage hooks. Trails are well marked (orange, white, blue) with quarter-mile markers and varied scenery, and Cedarville Pond is a noted birding spot, though parts of the pond loop can be brushy. Facilities are generally clean—bathrooms are often spotless and showers are maintained, with occasional limited hot water. Sites are wooded and sometimes gravel and close together so sound travels; canopy can trap heat, and low branches or chiggers may be occasional nuisances.
