Smallwood State Park offers well-kept, roomy campsites and cabins with water and electric hookups, clean remodeled bathhouses, and a marina with boat launches, fishing piers, and limited rentable slips. The park features pleasant shaded hiking trails, modern playgrounds, a discovery/interpretive center, and basic camp infrastructure (picnic tables, fire rings, firewood, dump station). Practical tradeoffs: it’s strongest for boating and fishing—there’s no beach or pool—and some sites can flood in heavy rain; parking/wayfinding and entry procedures have occasionally been criticized, and seasonal biting flies may be an issue. Staff and rangers are generally helpful.
