What campers say

Caprock Canyons State Park & Trailway offers striking red‑rock canyons, open prairie and abundant wildlife—bison and prairie dogs are often visible from park roads and near the visitor center. Trails and primitive campsites (including bluff sites in North and South Prong and Little Red Tent areas) provide rewarding hikes and overlooks, though many routes are rugged with loose red soil and limited shade. Carry ample water, start early in warm months, and expect some short hikes to reach backcountry sites. The visitor center and staff are well regarded, the park is dog‑ and family‑friendly, and skies are excellent for stargazing; note the lake can be largely dry seasonally.
