Canyon Rim Campground sits on a dramatic canyon edge with excellent reservoir and gorge viewpoints, short walks to multiple overlooks, and a visitor center/marina about 15 minutes away. Sites are generally level and paved with decent spacing, vault toilets kept clean, seasonal water taps, and bear-safe dumpsters; a camp host is sometimes present. It’s peaceful and good for tent or car camping, though fees are charged and there are no RV hookups - RV travelers may prefer other nearby Forest Service options. Keep a close eye on children and dogs near the rim; wildlife sightings are common.

Canyon Rim Campground near Dutch John, UT. Canyon Rim Campground is located in a grassy meadow high above Flaming Gorge Reservoir, along Red Canyon Road at an elevation of 7,400 feet. Visitors enjoy exploring the Red Canyon Rim Trail and canoeing and fishing at Greens Lake. Lodgepole and ponderosa pines dot the campground, providing limited shade. Summer wildflowers are plentiful. Garbage dumpster is available. Dump stations are located at Antelope Flat, Deer Run, Firefighters, and Lodgepole Campgrounds to use for a small fee. Showers are located at Deer Run and Mustang Ridge for campers with proof of camping registration. No electric, water or sewer hookups are available. Don't Move Firewood: Help prevent the spread of tree-killing pests in our national forests by obtaining firewood near your destination and burning it on-site.   • Nearby Greens Lake offers great canoeing and fishing for rainbow and brook trout. Red Canyon Lodge sits on the shore. Canoe and bike rentals, horseback riding, a restaurant and gift shop are available.
  • Red Canyon Rim Trail, for hiking and biking, begins at the nearby visitor center, which offers interpretive displays and area information.
  • Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area is known not only for its beautiful red cliffs, but also for its world-class fishing for lake, brown and rainbow trout. Boating, water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, kayaking, swimming and scuba diving are popular activities on the reservoir.
  • Flaming Gorge Dam offers guided tours of the working hydroelectric plant and the dam itself; the adjacent visitor center contains area history exhibits.
