(And that’s saying something, because we have plenty of opinions.)
There are two constant truths in RV life:
-
you will develop strong opinions about everything, and
-
your rig will make a noise about it.
Because our RV doesn’t just travel — it commentates.
It squeaks when we turn. It squeaks when we stop. It squeaks when we breathe in its general direction.
And somehow, despite all the judgement we bring to the road,
our RV has more squeaks than opinions.
1) The Squeaks Start the Moment You Move
You pull out of the campsite and everything seems fine for five glorious seconds.
Then: squeak.
You turn the wheel: squeak-squeak.
You hit a small bump: squeeeeeak.
And instantly your brain starts doing its favourite hobby: catastrophic thinking.
“Is that suspension?”
“Is that the hitch?”
“Is that a cabinet?”
“Is that… the RV’s soul leaving its body?”
2) Every Squeak Has a Personality
Not all squeaks are equal. RV squeaks come in categories:
-
The Polite Squeak: “Hey, I’m here.”
-
The Angry Squeak: “I’M NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS ROAD.”
-
The Rhythmic Squeak: “We’re in sync now. Enjoy.”
-
The Random Squeak: “No reason. Just vibes.”
-
The Expensive-Sounding Squeak: “You should pull over and panic immediately.”
You learn these like a second language.
3) The Quietest Moment Is the Worst
Here’s the part that messes with you:
when the squeak stops.
Because if it’s squeaking, at least you know where your fear is located.
But when it goes quiet?
Now you’re thinking:
“Did it fix itself?”
“Did something fall off?”
“Is it waiting to surprise me later?”
Silence in an RV isn’t peace.
It’s suspense.
4) You Become a Full-Time Sound Investigator
You start doing the classic RV detective routine:
-
lean your head toward the wall while driving (very safe, very normal)
-
turn the radio down to “hear the problem better”
-
ask your co-pilot, “Do you hear that?” every three minutes
-
stop at a rest area and shake things like a raccoon checking bins
Your rig is squeaking.
You are spiralling.
This is teamwork.
5) The Fix Is Always the Same Three Things
After enough trips, you realise squeaks are usually caused by:
-
something loose
-
something rubbing
-
something begging for lubricant
Your repair kit becomes 50% tools and 50% “things that stop squeaks,” including:
-
silicone spray
-
dry lube
-
felt pads
-
zip ties
-
hope
-
emotional restraint
6) The Squeaks Follow You Into Camp
You arrive. You park. You level. You exhale.
Then you hear it again—softly—as you step inside: squeak.
The RV isn’t done.
It’s never done.
It wants you to remember it’s still the main character.
7) And Yet… It’s Part of the Charm
Because squeaks mean you’re moving.
They mean the wheels are turning and you’re out there actually doing the thing.
Your rig might complain, but it still gets you to sunsets, quiet mornings, and those “worth it” views that make you forget the chaos.
Even if it squeaks the whole way there.
Final Thoughts
Your RV will squeak.
You will investigate.
You will swear it’s the last time you ignore it.
And then you’ll keep driving anyway—because that’s RV life.
So yes:
Our RV has more squeaks than opinions (somehow).
And frankly, that’s impressive… and mildly concerning.
🐟 Want fewer rattles and squeaks from rough approaches and awkward site angles?
Use Campground Views to preview entrances, terrain, and layout before you roll in — because sometimes the best “fix” is avoiding the bump that started it all.
