LaVern M. Johnson Park (formerly Meadow Park) is a municipal park and campground managed by the Town of Lyons, Colorado, nestled beneath red sandstone cliffs along the North St. Vrain Creek. It serves as a base camp for exploring Boulder, Estes Park, and Rocky Mountain National Park (a 35–40 minute drive away), and sits within walking distance of downtown Lyons shops and restaurants.

Campsite Breakdown

The park features 39 designated campsites split between RV and tent areas:

• 16 Full-Hookup RV Sites (Open Year-Round):

  • Hookups: Water, sewer, and electric (30-amp and 50-amp service).

  • Pads: Paved/concrete pads accommodating rigs up to 45+ feet.

  • Restrictions: Tents are strictly prohibited in the RV section (maximum 1 RV/camping unit and 1 towing/passenger vehicle per site).

• 23 Tent Sites (Open Mid-April through Mid-October):

  • Sites 1–8 (Drive-Up Style): Located closer to the recreation fields and parking; easier access for car camping.

  • Sites 9–23 (Walk-In River Sites): Situated directly along North St. Vrain Creek. Vehicles must remain in the designated central parking lot, and gear must be carried a short distance down the footpath.

  • Pad Requirement: Tents must be pitched directly on the crushed-gravel tent pads—stakes and tents are not permitted on the surrounding turf/grass.

• Restrooms & Showers: Modern, heated flush restrooms and hot showers (access code provided to registered campers by the on-site Camp Host).

• Water & Recreation:

  • Direct river access to North St. Vrain Creek for tubing, kayaking (Lyons Whitewater Park), and catch-and-release fishing.

  • Two playgrounds, a kids' zip line, a splash pad, and open sports fields.

  • On-site wood-fired saunas and cold plunge creek sessions (Ember N Ice, offering camper discounts).

• Picnic Tables & Grills: Campsites include a picnic table and upright barbecue grill.
