Wild Horse State Recreation Area sits beside a scenic reservoir with dramatic peaks and is consistently praised for excellent trout fishing and a clean fish‑cleaning station. Campground loops are well laid out, many sites offer lake views, and three cabins are available. Restrooms and showers have been renovated and are kept very clean. There’s a small onsite store/gift shop and convenient water fill and dump facilities; boat and pontoon rentals are offered and the lake rarely feels crowded. Sites are mostly primitive with limited electrical hookups, and hiking options are minimal, so visitors should come for water recreation and fishing. Staff are generally helpful.
