What campers say
Villanueva State Park is a compact, riverfront park centered on the Pecos River with several short trails—a waterside trail and a more vigorous upper mesa route. It offers day-use and overnight camping; riverfront sites are scenic and fill quickly while mesa sites are quieter with wide views. Site amenities vary: a few sites have electricity while most rely on central water spigots, picnic areas, a small playground, and basic restrooms that are generally kept clean. Practical tradeoffs include closely spaced campsites in places, low river levels or mud at times, and a narrow, turning access road that may be tight for very large rigs.
