A very scenic spot to camp for a few nights. First come first served can be nerve racking on a holiday weekend but we lucked out and pulled in just as someone was leaving. The campground was full while we stayed but very quiet and peaceful. Surrounded by red rock cliffs the campground is very scenic. About a 2 mile drive to the main access road where all the popular attractions hikes are located. There are petroglyphs viewable a short walk from the campground. Verizon cell service is non-existent; a good place to get a away for a night or two. Some sites are setup for Class A's versus 5th wheels with the hookups on the opposite side for nose in parking. We were in one of the class A sites with our fifth wheel and had to run the cables hoses under the rig.

What campers say
Valley of Fire State Park offers spectacular red sandstone formations, varied scenic drives, and many short, accessible hikes with excellent photo opportunities—especially at sunrise and sunset. The visitors center is new and informative, and viewpoints are easy to navigate for casual walkers. Practical planning is important: temperatures can be very high, so bring plenty of water and aim for early starts. The park makes for a convenient day trip from Las Vegas and rewards stops for photography and short walks, though limited shade and summer heat call for cautious timing and preparation.
