Trail of Tears State Forest offers a peaceful, scenic camping and hiking experience. Campsites are roomy and well-spaced, with several sites suitable for hammock camping. The area has many uphill trails and lookout points, plus picnic areas, grills, a playground and a swimming spot. A drive through the forest is popular in fall and can be accessible to visitors with limited mobility. It is pet-friendly, but some roads run along bluffs with drop-offs and can be hazardous in bad weather. Visitors also note occasional litter at campsites, so plan to pack out trash.
