The perfect overnight campground. Late spring camping on a Monday night with about 20 others spread out very evenly throughout the park. Elk and moose grazed all around us. Beautiful sunset, sunrise and weather. Restrooms were very clean and camp hosts were visible but not obtrusive. Only complaint is that their firewood was moist causing smokey fires. No Verizon cell service. Awoke the next morning refreshed and ready to drive over the mountain.

Timber Creek Campground sits on the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park near Grand Lake and offers easy access to trailheads, the Colorado River headwaters, and quiet, scenic campsites. Visitors commonly report good privacy, mountain views, abundant wildlife (elk, moose, deer and smaller mammals), and helpful staff. Tradeoffs include dated restrooms with no hot water or showers, limited water faucets and bear storage at only some sites, occasional flies depending on season, variable site sizes, and spotty cell service. It’s a less crowded base for exploring the park, but review site details and amenities when reserving.

📖 About This Campground
Timber Creek Campground in Rocky Mountain National Park Colorado offers 98 RV and tent camping sites on a first come first served basis. Located on the west side of the park 10 miles north of Grand Lake. Water spigots and dump station available. Situated in an open setting due to pine beetle kill tree removal the campground is popular as a lookout for grazing elk and moose. There is no privacy between sites the campground is laid out with multiple one way loops. Pull thrus, backins and hike-in tent camping sites available. An amphitheater with ranger led programs, a dump station and water fill are located near the entrance. During season there is an active camp host/ ranger presence. Even though this campground can get crowded it tends to stay relatively peaceful and serene.
Bar boxes are available at each site along with a picnic table and fire ring. Firewood is available for sale. Paved roads and paved parking pads.
The campground is suitable to larger RVs within the limits defined by the park service. Due to the lack of trees all the sites are fully exposed to the elements with no shade available.
