Staunton River State Park offers a quiet, well-kept campground at the confluence of two rivers, with easy access to boat ramps, fishing, hiking and equestrian trails. Staff and camp hosts are frequently praised as friendly and helpful, and the visitor center/gift shop is handy. It’s an internationally certified dark‑sky site with an observing field, loaner telescopes and periodic star‑parties, making it excellent for stargazing. Campsites include level pull‑throughs and some elevated, shaded sites. Practical tradeoffs: bathhouses are reported as clean but dated, the dump station can be limited, and some tent sites may feel close together on busy weekends.
