Polihale State Park offers an expansive, largely undeveloped beach with sweeping sand, a dramatic mountain backdrop and highly praised sunsets. Many visitors report a peaceful, uncrowded setting that’s good for privacy, stargazing and overnight camping. Access involves a long, rough unpaved road and beach driving; a 4WD is commonly recommended and drivers should be prepared for mud, potholes and the possibility of getting stuck. Facilities are minimal, though some campsites exist. The remote location is the main tradeoff: outstanding scenery and solitude come with an uneven, slow approach and limited on-site services.
