Pawtuckaway State Park offers a picturesque lake setting with many waterfront campsites, a sandy beach, picnic areas, clear water for swimming and launching small boats, plus hiking and mountain-bike trails and vivid fall foliage. The park has a small store, boat rentals, potable water, and some renovated bathhouses. Expect tradeoffs: popular weekends can feel crowded and a few visitors report rowdy groups; boat rentals and kayak equipment can be older and staffing limited; insects, occasional wasps/bees and wildlife including snakes have been observed. Access roads are largely unpaved and there's a modest parking fee, so plan accordingly.
