Great State Park. Canoe and kayak launch. River access. Water is cold and super clear! Staff at the visitors center are the best! Love to share and suggest things to do. Sites are well spaced, some with full hook up, great showers. Tons of deer in the area. Little hard to get to, but worth the trip. Don't drive on Hwy 221 to get there! Use Hwy 16 to E, Shatley Springs Rd , much better road and less curves!

New River State Park offers a peaceful riverside camping experience with easy, well-marked trails and good river access for kayaking, canoeing, tubing and fishing. Campsites are generally clean, level and separated by trees for privacy; some have electric hookups while many more secluded sites are walk-in without water, though potable spigots and a fill station are available. Bathhouses and showers receive frequent praise, and park staff are described as friendly and helpful. The park is popular and can be busy; walk-in sites may require a 200-300 yard carry (wheelbarrows/wagons provided) and some visitors reported early gate closures.
