What campers say

Montour Campground is a small, well-kept, budget-friendly site with shady, grassy campsites, potable water pumps, vault toilets and a low-cost dump station. Many visitors praise a friendly camp host and easy access to nearby river access, hot springs, fishing and reservoir recreation. It’s pleasant for short stays and offers wheelchair-accessible picnic tables. Some visitors report mosquitoes at times and occasional road noise. Late-night noise from other campers and generator use, plus inconsistent enforcement of quiet hours, are recurring downsides to consider.

We've been going to the Montour campground since the mid 2000's. Each trip (usually 2-3 a summer), we've always been plagued with a bad mosquito problem. This summer (2026) we visited Montour in mid July and then again this past weekend (8-15-26.) We paid to stay through until 8-18 (Tuesday) but while there, the mosquitos were the absolute worse we'd ever seen them. We ended up leaving today (Monday), a day earlier than what we paid for just to get away from the damn mosquitoes. The Parks and Rec. dept. --apparently ?-- spray for them but whatever they use isn't working very well, or at all. The mosquitoes seem to have become immune to bug spray and just eat you up, spray or no spray. We were so oiled up with mosquito spray that we were an oily mess, but it didn't phase the mosquitos a bit. If you're a person that mosquitoes don't bother, have at it but if they bother/bite you, do yourself a favor and find a different campground. They're absolutely terrible. On our way home from there, we agreed that this trip there will be our final trip to the Montour Campground. Aside from the mosquito problem, it's a decent place to visit. They just need to find a way to cut down the mosquito population, that Montour campground is just overrun with and the only way to get way from them is to sit inside your camper, not our choice! D.
