About this campground

Monte Cristo Campground 30 miles from Huntsville Utah is a US Forest Service campground (Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest) offering 47 primitive hookup RV and tent camping sites at 9,000 feet elevation. Usually open by the first week of July the campground is convenient to multiple trails for hiking, biking, ATV and equestrian use (note horses are not allowed in the campground; in addition ATV users are forced to trailer 1 mile away from campground). Fresh water and vault toilets. The campsites have a picnic table and fire ring. This campground also serves as a base camp for hunters during deer and elk season. Advance reservations can be made via Recreation.gov.

Monte Cristo Campground sits in a cool, scenic forest with big pines and wildflowers and is generally well‑maintained and clean with helpful camp hosts. Many sites are spaced for privacy and include picnic tables, fire rings and flushing or pit toilets depending on the loop. Expect cooler temperatures and quickly changing weather. Tradeoffs include narrow, tree‑lined roads and short driveways that can make backing large trailers difficult, and intermittent water outages have been reported, so bring your own supply. Cash payment and on‑site attendant checks are common; bring bug spray and be prepared for occasional recreational noise.
