What campers say

Matthiessen State Park offers dramatic canyons, clear streams, and several waterfalls reachable via well-kept trails. Trails are easy to access from parking areas and wind through narrow gorges with stepping stones and arched stone bridges—great for hiking and picnics. Expect many stairs, uneven rock surfaces, and occasional wet or muddy sections; sturdy, traction-soled shoes that can get wet are recommended. Facilities have been temporarily replaced by porta-potties at times, and parking is limited though overflow lots are nearby. The park is generally less crowded than neighboring attractions, but visitors may encounter fallen trees or sporadic litter on some paths.
