Park Description

Lewis and Clark State Park is a 621-acre camping park situated in one of the last major stands of old-growth forest in the state. 25 primitive tent sites (situated in a quiet wooded setting) and 9 full hookup RV sites (situated adjacent to the highway).

Lewis and Clark State Park, located in the state of Washington, is a captivating camping destination that offers a unique blend of history, natural beauty, and outdoor recreation. Situated along the banks of the Lower Granite Lake, this park provides an enriching experience for campers looking to connect with nature and delve into the rich heritage of the Lewis and Clark expedition.

One of the main draws of Lewis and Clark State Park is its historical significance. Named after the famed explorers, Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, who ventured through this region during their Corps of Discovery expedition, the park offers a chance to step back in time and retrace their footsteps. Visitors can explore interpretive exhibits, displays, and markers that provide insights into the expedition’s challenges, discoveries, and encounters with Native American tribes.

The campground at Lewis and Clark State Park provides a range of camping options to suit different preferences. Whether you prefer tent camping, RV camping, or staying in one of the park’s cozy cabins, you’ll find well-maintained sites with picnic tables, fire pits, and access to amenities such as clean restrooms and potable water. The campground offers a peaceful and picturesque setting, allowing campers to relax and immerse themselves in the natural beauty that surrounds them.

Outdoor enthusiasts will find plenty of activities to enjoy at Lewis and Clark State Park. The park offers opportunities for hiking, with scenic trails that wind through lush forests and along the shoreline of the Lower Granite Lake. These trails provide stunning views and the chance to spot wildlife, such as deer, eagles, and a variety of bird species. Fishing is also a popular activity, with the lake teeming with bass, crappie, and other fish, making it a paradise for anglers.

Water-based recreation is a highlight of Lewis and Clark State Park. The Lower Granite Lake is perfect for boating, canoeing, and kayaking, allowing visitors to explore the lake’s serene waters and discover hidden coves and peaceful spots. Swimming and sunbathing are also popular activities, with designated swimming areas and sandy beaches where you can relax and soak up the sun.

Lewis and Clark State Park is a fantastic destination for families as well. The park offers a safe and family-friendly environment, with open spaces for kids to run and play. The campground has a playground where children can have fun, and during the summer months, the park hosts interpretive programs and educational activities that engage and entertain visitors of all ages.

In addition to its historical and recreational offerings, Lewis and Clark State Park provides convenient amenities to enhance your camping experience. The park has a boat launch area for easy access to the lake, as well as a picnic shelter for gatherings and outdoor meals. The park staff are friendly and knowledgeable, ready to assist visitors and provide information about the park’s attractions and facilities.

In conclusion, Lewis and Clark State Park is a captivating camping destination that offers a blend of history, natural beauty, and outdoor recreation. Whether you’re interested in retracing the footsteps of the famed explorers or seeking opportunities to connect with nature and enjoy outdoor activities, this park has something for everyone. So pack your camping gear, embark on a journey through history, and immerse yourself in the wonders of Lewis and Clark State Park.
