📖 About This Campground

LaVern Johnson Park Campground in Lyons Colorado offers full hookup RV and primitive tent camping in a municipal park that abuts the Rocky Mountains. A popular location and open year round the small camping area offers 15 full hookup RV sites, 2 primitive, no hookup, RV sites and 17 tent camping sites. The entire park is tucked in to a u of the North St Vrain River (made famous by the floods of 2013). The park has been rebuilt since the floods and features nice appointments that make it popular for locals and visitors alike. Located in the town of Lyons guests can walk in to the small downtown or venture on miles of scenic paths and roads via bicycle or foot (Open Space is all around). Lyons is a gateway into Estes Park (from the South) and makes a perfect home base, at lower elevation, for visiting Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. No campfires are allowed. Charcoal or propane cooking is only allowed at designated sites in a proper cooking setup. Advanced reservations are highly encouraged. Nightly rates (as of 2017) are $20 for tent sites and $40 for RV sites). Formerly known as Meadow Park Campground the RV sites are all backins off a one way dirt road. There are drive in tent camping sites accessible off this same dirt road but the best tent camping sites are a short walk in from the parking lot. These individual pads are very nice with a tent area, picnic table and raised BBQ grill. Tucked under large shade trees the sites are surrounded by manicured lawns and shrubs and all have views looking down on the river. See another video of the RV Park/ Campground

Very nice little find. Only complaint is that rules are lightly enforced. One of the rigs stunk of sewer and had flat tires. Outside of this complaint the park is in a lovely setting for $30 per night with full hookups. Bring a kayak because they have a slalom course setup on the river that runs a huge "C" around the park. You launch on one side and get out on the other; very fun. 30 minutes into Estes Park and RMNP. 15 minutes to a Super Target and other stores. Closed gate access with no traffic means very quiet and peaceful. Short walk to the small town of Lyons with a cute main-street. Verizon 4G worked with an amp otherwise cell service was weak. Sites are a bit tight but very deep. Our 37' rig fit fine with the truck parked in front.
