What campers say
Kalōpā State Recreation Area is a quiet, well‑maintained camp and day‑use forest park offering several short hikes through native and plantation forest with abundant bird life and diverse flora. Facilities include picnic tables, covered cook/gazebo areas, grills, restrooms with showers and outlets, cabins, and multiple tent areas (one reserved for reduced mobility) with concrete floors and ample parking. Camping requires reservations. Practical tradeoffs: phone signal is limited, mosquitoes can be heavy at night, and the concrete tent platforms can make tent setup trickier. Trails and some trailheads can be easy to miss, so bring a map and allow time to explore.
