Situated at 7,800 feet among dense lodgepole pines in the Bighorn National Forest, Hunter Campground is a specialized retreat designed primarily with the equestrian camper in mind, though it remains open to all outdoor enthusiasts. Imagine pulling into a spacious site equipped with your own individual livestock corral, saddling up using the ADA-accessible mounting ramp, and riding directly into the Cloud Peak Wilderness. Whether you are hitting the trails on horseback, hiking into the Rock Creek Recommended Wilderness Area, or enjoying a quiet evening around the fire, this Wyoming campground offers unmatched access to spectacular mountain landscapes and pristine solitude.

Campsite & Lodging Choices

  • Equestrian RV/Tent Sites: 11 non-electric campsites (9 reservable) purpose-built for equestrian campers but available to all users.

  • Spacious Trailer Spurs: Generous 65-foot by 20-foot parking spurs designed specifically to easily accommodate vehicles towing long horse trailers.

  • Hardened Camp Pads: Each campsite features a 20x20 foot hardened use pad equipped with a picnic table, a utility table, and a fire ring.


Utilities & On-Site Facilities

  • Utility Connections: Dry camping sites (no electrical hookups).

  • Water Access: Potable drinking water is available throughout the facility via a pressurized solar water system.

  • Equestrian Facilities: Individual livestock corrals located right at each campsite, plus an ADA-accessible horse mounting ramp.

  • Trailhead Parking: An adjacent non-fee trailhead parking area accommodates 15 single vehicles, 18 vehicles with trailers, and includes a separate zone for Outfitter/Guide parking.

  • Trail Riding & Hiking: Immediate access to the Hunter Trailhead, connecting riders and hikers to front-country trails, the Cloud Peak Wilderness, and the Rock Creek Recommended Wilderness Area.
