About this campground

Hatchet Campground east of Moran Wyoming offers primitive RV and tent camping in a wooded setting adjacent to US 287. Convenient to Grand Teton National Park and Jackson Wyoming this forest services managed park (it is within walking distance of a ranger station) is convenient to the highway and acts as a good fallback for campers unable to get a site down in Grand Teton National Park. A small dirt loop road there are pull thrus and backins available. A pit toilet and running water provide the basic necessities. Note this is bear country; proper food storage is mandatory. Lightly used most people skip this one due to its close position to the highway (it can be a bit noisy for tents) but small RVs and heavy sleepers enjoy the location. The Hatchet Campground offers a friendly, affordable base between Jackson/Tetons and Togwotee Pass with easy views of the Tetons. Hosts are regularly praised for being welcoming. Sites are basic but maintained: picnic tables, fire rings, benches, potable water spigots and vault/pit toilets are available, though facilities are limited (no dump station) and services can be reduced or shut down in the shoulder season. An overflow lot accommodates extra rigs. Expect a good location for touring Grand Teton and Yellowstone, variable cell reception, and occasional mosquitoes. Overall a practical, low‑cost option for visitors who accept simple amenities.
