What campers say

Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park offers classic redwood scenery and easy access to the Van Duzen River, with well-maintained sites that include picnic tables, fire rings and bear-safe food lockers. Park facilities are solid — flush toilets and coin showers — and firewood is sold at the ranger station. Rangers and hosts are frequently praised for being helpful. Tradeoffs include road noise at campsites near Highway 36, limited cell service away from Eureka, and occasional after-hours visitors because the campground lacks a staffed gate. Choose river-side sites for quieter views and arrive early to check in.

📖 About This Campground

Grizzly Creek Redwoods State Park Campground near Carlotta California offers 28 primitive small RV and tent camping sites in a remote and lesser known location. 15 miles from US 101 the park provides a rustic camping experience in a second growth Redwood forest not far from an old growth redwood forest. Campsites have no hookups but do have picnic tables and fire rings. Restrooms and water are available as are short trails within the small state park. The park roads are paved while the campsites are on dirt. A visitor center is available and during summer ranger led events take place. The location is noted as the backdrop for the Star Wars scenes that took place in a forest.
