Our favorite Northern California campground. Recently visited and found newly paved roads and spurs. New cement tables, new steel bear boxes and new steel fire rings with cooking grates. Reservations during peak season with 8 FCFS sites. Water available and pit toilets, no showers. No dump station. Gorgeous waterfalls and forest. More understory than most California forest campgrounds. Quiet. Trout planted in summer, usually. Better for tents and midsized rvs. Popular, so plan ahead. 2 bars Verizon 4G.

What campers say
Fowlers Campground is a small, looped site set right by the trail network to the upper, middle and lower falls, making it excellent for hiking, swimming and fishing. Campsites feel private and include paved tent/table pads, bear boxes and bear‑proof trash; there are no hookups—only pit toilets/port‑a‑potties and shared water spigots. The area is popular and close to town, so expect trail foot traffic and a busy campground in season. Mule deer are commonly seen and other large animals are occasionally reported. Hosts and restroom cleanliness can vary, so plan on basic, rustic facilities and bring supplies.
