The park is a peaceful, historically focused bluff-side site with hiking trails and overlooks of the Mississippi, a small museum and ranger-led information. Campsites are neat, roomy, with updated restrooms and private showers; staff and rangers are frequently described as friendly and helpful. On-site amenities include canoe/paddle rentals, a gift shop, and some visitor conveniences. Tradeoffs: some trails are narrow, overgrown, or poorly marked and portions of trail infrastructure need repair; the location can feel remote. Visitors should also secure food — raccoons have been reported at campsites.
