This was a nice surprise. The first surprise was we were able to get into a state park with no reservation. It's the biggest state park in Georgia. The only drawback was you have to register at the visitor center, then drive down a mile on a windy, steep hill to the campground. We didn't know this and went to the campground first, then had to come all the way back up the hill and down again. There's an easier back entrance but you still have to register at the visitor center. We used the back entrance when we left. Many camping areas, come right on beautiful Lake Delanor, ours was over 120' long. Rental cabins. You have to buy a $5.00 pass for the car. No sewer sites but a dump station on the way out and gray water dumps throughout the park. It's very wooded and lots of trees and kind of tricky to get around some corners with a big rig. Ampitheater, rental boats of all kinds, fishing pier, stables, pavilions, playgrounds, tent areas, two hosts for 24 hour duty, hiking trails, Liberty Bell pool close by, close to town and stores. Small souvenir store at the visitor center. Great, great place, will definitely come back.
How much you like this campground is partially dependent on how much you like your campsite. We loved ours, #101 right on the lake. It is large enough for a huge class A or fifth wheel and has electric and water hook ups, a fire pit, and a picnic table. The campground is set among the trees and some sites are more private than others. While #101 is not private at all, the sites in the back loops are well spaced and have good separation. We arrived on Thursday and so had our pick of available sites. Word of warning, people start arriving Friday morning at 8AM to get their site so if you show up at 6PM, expect what is left over (Georgia state parks allows campground reservations but not particular campsite reservations). If you take the back entrance out of the park you are just five minutes away from the town of Pine Mountain and you avoid the steep hill to the campground.
