What campers say
East Fork Campground is a small, mostly shaded Forest Service site about 10 miles northeast of Pagosa Springs, reached via a short gravel/washboard road off Hwy 160. About 25 spacious, well‑spaced sites include picnic tables, fire rings and some overlook the San Juan (East Fork) River; trails descend to the river and the sound of running water contributes to a peaceful setting. Vaulted/pit toilets and dumpsters are provided and generally maintained. Hosts are frequently described as helpful, though occasional reports note a less friendly host and an uncontrolled barking dog. Mosquitoes and a rough access road are occasional tradeoffs; some sites are reservable.
