What campers say
Douthat State Park offers a classic mountain-lake experience with well‑maintained campsites, cabins, and a wide network of hiking trails. The lake supports lots of water activities and rentals (canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, peddle boats) plus a swim beach and stocked trout fishing (fee may apply). Restrooms and individual, locking shower rooms are consistently praised for cleanliness and hot water. Staff and rangers are described as friendly and helpful. Practical tradeoffs: lakeside sites can feel tight, cell service is limited (some wifi near facilities), a small on‑site store/grille is handy but can be pricey, and many trails allow mountain bikes, which affects trail conditions.
