Danish Alps State Recreation Area is a well‑maintained, relatively new park offering spacious sites, clean restrooms and showers, and a multi‑mile limestone trail circling a peaceful no‑wake lake. It’s popular for fishing, kayaking, SUP, hiking and especially horseback camping — many horse sites include water and electric hookups plus nearby sturdy corrals and manure facilities. Practical tradeoffs include occasional highway noise in certain wind conditions and some amenities (playground, fish cleaning area or kayak‑in sites) being a walk from certain campsites. Note that park admission/registration fees apply.
