What campers say
Convict Flat Campground is a small, free National Forest site with about five first-come, first-served campsites that sit low in Kings Canyon. Sites generally include picnic tables, fire rings, and a vault/long-drop toilet, but there is no potable water — bring your own. The setting is quiet and secluded with short walks to canyon viewpoints and can accommodate small-to-midsize trailers. Fire use is restricted and may require a permit, and the campground is not open year-round. Limited size, occasional litter, and mosquitoes are the main drawbacks, but it serves well as a simple, low-cost base near Griffin Falls and Cedar Grove.
