    Local Area

My perspective on the Clam Beach county campground is that this area provides value primarily in the summer, and also to two groups of people.

    1) People like me, traveling through, needing a place to stay in their car. There were several other vehicles parked on this very cold night, and maybe some of them even paid like me (25$ per vehicle per night, 3 nights max).

    2) People looking for an accessible beach where they can have a chill time and a beach fire, and do beach things. This is perfect for that.

The area is actually pretty clever, and since I have only been in California a couple of years I cant say if this is a common set-up or not. It is really just a parking lot with campsites lined up around the edge, with beach access. There are spaces along the edge sort of “attached” to the sites, and parking spaces in the middle for just parking.

The camping sites themselves provide “shoulder-to-shoulder” style spacing. The area is essentially just broken up into spaces with logs and each space is provided a fire pit and picnic table.

And thats all there is to it. I found it perfect for floating through, but too parking lot to get more than 3 stars. And the bathroom. Yikes.
The bathroom is just the typical hole in the ground with a roof over it, and was in very very poor condition when I was there. Hopefully this isnt a consistent quality of Humboldt County parks.
