we stayed there 6 nights in July 2018. Was not the best experience. Had an electrical problem on their end, the 50 amp socket was defective, ruined refrigerated food. They promised to reimburse but have not. We went tubing. They took us to drop off point, no assistance, no istructions, nothing. 4 mile run, no place to get off, ask for assistance, nothing, not a good experience and potentially very dangerous as no way to call for help. We left a day early, they promised to credit but so far have seen nothing. Staff seemed indifferent, uninformed. Would not recommend this KOA, too many others to choose from.
About this campground
Cherokee / Great Smokies KOA in Cherokee North Carolina provides full hookup RV and tent camping with KOA level of amenities adjacent to the Raven Fork River. Scenic setting with sites able to accommodate any size RV. Family friendly amenities.
What campers say
This KOA offers a family-oriented campground with riverfront cabins, manicured grounds, and lots of on-site activities for kids (pool, playground, bounce pillow, games and seasonal train/rentals). Many guests praise friendly, accommodating staff and comfortable cabins; the café and poolside dining get positive mentions. Tradeoffs include occasional cleanliness lapses in some cabins, inconsistent pool availability or chilly water, and some RV sites with more gravel or limited width. The park is fairly large and a few miles from Cherokee, with some road noise and reports of lax cart speeds. Overall a good choice for families but expect varying experiences.
