Cheney State Park offers a natural, lake-centered experience well suited to boating, fishing, sailing, and water sports, with a marina and rental options and good opportunities for birdwatching and shoreline recreation. Hiking trails are enjoyable but can be moderately demanding and often have limited shade, so plan accordingly. Campground sites are generally spacious, including many primitive sites, though fire rings and site amenities vary. Several visitors reported dated or poorly maintained bathhouses and showers and an occasional lack of on-site staff. Overall it’s a peaceful outdoor destination with practical trade-offs between excellent water access and mixed campground facilities.
