Chaco Culture National Historical Park offers an exceptional archaeological landscape with well-interpreted exhibits at a visitor center primarily operated by Navajo staff. Access requires a long, sometimes bumpy gravel/dirt drive; approach planning and a dry road are recommended. Trails range from short, easy site walks to strenuous hikes (Pueblo Alto, Peñasco Blanco); bring plenty of water, sun protection, and sturdy shoes. Amenities are limited—primitive camping, filtered water available at the visitor center, restrooms, and a vehicle fee—so plan accordingly. Clear night skies and striking ruins make the trip rewarding, but allow extra time for travel and limited services.
