What campers say

Caballo Campground is a very small, primitive site of about five campsites on a dirt road atop the San Andreas Fault. Sites are basic but functional, generally providing a picnic table and fire ring; there is a single vault/pit toilet with limited supplies. Access involves off‑road driving; high‑clearance or 4x4 vehicles are recommended as some passenger vans have trouble. The area can be quiet and oak‑shaded in spots, though several sites lack shade and nearby OHV trails leave visible tracks and occasional disturbance. Expect minimal amenities and bring water, warm clothing, and a capable vehicle.
