What campers say
Burro Mountain Homestead is a spacious, off‑the‑beaten‑path campground with large, clean sites (full hookups), tidy restrooms/showers, laundry and communal spaces including a library/museum and game room. It’s popular with RVs and tents, pet‑friendly, and offers miles of ATV/hiking trails, abundant wildlife and excellent stargazing. Practical tradeoffs include a long, rough dirt road with heavy washboarding—take it slow—and the remoteness (about 16 miles to the nearest gas), so bring extra fuel for off‑roading. Some sites are dusty with goathead thorns and several long‑term residents live on site. Many visitors praise the welcoming staff, though an isolated negative interaction was reported.
