Buffalo Springs Campground is a well‑maintained, quiet Forest Service site with spacious, well‑spaced campsites and many aspens that provide shade and privacy. The camp host is consistently described as friendly and helpful; restrooms are vault toilets that are generally kept clean but can have strong odors. Amenities are basic (well, dumpster, vault toilets) and cell service is limited. It’s convenient for hiking and for accessing Buena Vista, though some sites are too small for a truck-and-trailer and a few can pick up highway noise from US‑285. Expect cooler nights at about 9,200 ft and variable enforcement of quiet hours.

Buffalo Springs Campground near Buena Vista, CO. Buffalo Springs Campground sits on a rolling hillside in the San Isabel National Forest, providing an ideal setting for biking, hiking, horseback riding and rock climbing. Buffalo Springs Campground is located 12.5 miles south of Fairplay on FS 431.  It has 18 campsites with parking spurs 24-40 feet and a maximum trailer length of 30 feet; elevation is 9,000 feet; camping season begins in May and continues to the beginning of October. Facilities include toilets, tables, water, and fire rings. Camping fees are $17.00 per night. Reservations are recommended during the busy summer season and can be made by calling 1-877-444-6777 or by visiting recreation.gov. Buffalo Springs Campground is an ideal setting for biking, hiking, horseback riding and rock climbing. Wilderness restrictions apply in nearby Buffalo Peaks Wilderness.
Campsites are widely spaced. Parking aprons are dirt and rocky and fit a maximum trailer length of 30 feet. Amenities include campfire rings, picnic tables, vault toilets, drinking water and parking for up to two vehicles.
Tucked in a stand of aspen, spruce and other mixed conifers, Buffalo Springs offers private, secluded campsites. At 9,000 feet altitude, the campground maintains a glowing reputation as a place for excellent mountain views.
Picnicking and wildlife watching are also great activities. Look out for sightings of mule deer, bald eagles and chipmunks. Volleyball courts and horseshoe pits are also provided on-site.
