Bahia Honda is back open for day use with some campsites slated to re-open soon. The state park, as reported by the Herald Tribune (http://www.heraldtribune.com/news/20171220/play-bye-bye-bahia-honda), has been severly damaged with the prime ocean facing RV sites completely wiped out by the hurricane. “There are facilities such as a temporary bathroom and a makeshift set of showers. Also a chain-link fence that keeps people from the entire Atlantic Ocean side of the place.” The Atlantic facing camping areas, road and parking lot are all gone.

Contact the park direct for availability and rules but do expect a long recovery for this popular state park.

Bahia Honda State Park in Big Pine Key Florida one of Florida’s southernmost state parks, known for beautiful beaches, magnificent sunsets and excellent snorkeling. Offers partial and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent camping in three different campgrounds in the park: Buttonwood, Sandspur and Bayside. Primitive tent area on the north side of highway has a low clearance bridge; this does not impact RV sites.
