Alabaster Caverns State Park is a compact but rewarding spot featuring gypsum caverns with rare black alabaster and resident bats. Guided tours run regularly and guides are frequently praised for their knowledge; the cave stays a cool ~62°F, a welcome respite on hot days. Trails wind the canyon and there are tent and RV sites with water, electric, concrete pads, a dump station and modern restrooms/showers; one cave can even be camped inside and limited self‑exploration permits are offered. Note the caverns are smaller than at some parks, parts remain closed after a past collapse, and personal items (including water bottles) aren’t allowed on tours.
