Scenic Smith Falls State Park is home to Nebraska’s highest waterfall, also called Smith Falls. The state park is a popular destination for campers, as well as canoers, kayakers, tubers and others who visit the area to experience the beautiful Niobrara River, a National Scenic River. Many outfitters use the park as a take-out spot, which make it a convenient camping site for those planning to paddle or float the river.

    Quaint Platte River State Park is nestled halfway between Nebraska’s two largest cities — Lincoln and Omaha. Before it was a state park it was two separate camps — Harriet Harding Campfire Girls Camp and Camp Esther K. Newman — and a tract of woodlands. The charming, vintage cabins that once housed campers today provide cozy accommodations, while the gorgeous new glamping cabins offer a luxurious, yet nature-immersive, experience. Campers may also enjoy a state-of-the-art campground with 48 full-hookup campsites. Other popular draws are the park’s picturesque waterfall, spray park, scenic hiking and biking trails and two observation towers that allow those who climb to the top a spectacular view of the Platte River Basin.

    Danish Alps State Recreation Area comprises a 219-acre lake surrounded by 520 acres of parkland. The area is named for the early Danish settlers in the area. Kramper Reservoir, named for Vince Kramper, was planned with shoreline and both fishing in mind. The area also offers camping, day use facilities and hiking, biking and equestrian trails.

    Little Village Campground in Platte Center Nebraska provides 9 full hookup RV camping sites in the small community. Nearby owners hand manage the property. Utilities are locked and require the owners to open them for access.

    High Point RV Park in Kimball Nebraska provides full hookup RV sites convenient to Interstate 80.

    Point of Rocks Motel & RV Park in Potter Nebraska provides full and partial hookup RV sites in an open setting adjacent to US 30 and the Union Pacific Rail-tracks. An onsite motel is also available. The park is reasonably priced and can accommodate most any sized RV.

    The Buffalo County Recreation Area – Ravenna Lake, in Ravenna Nebraska provides back in and pull thru RV and tent camping along the shores of a small recreational lake. Formerly known as Ravenna Lake State Recreation area, the property was turned over to Buffalo County approximately 20 years ago, and has been upgraded to a full campground in the last 5-6 years. There are 41 RV campsites (8 primitive, 9 electrical hookups only, 16 electrical and water hookups, and 8 premium with electrical and water hookups). The lake has been stocked by Game and Parks and has excellent large mouth bass, crappie, catfish, and bluegill. The park also has a playground, hiking trails, horseshoe pits, and a disc golf course. A nice bathhouse/shower facility was just opened in the spring of 2022. Reservations and advance payment can be made online through the Buffalo County website ( and campspot.com), and drive up camping is available with payment made via an iron ranger at the entrance.

    Casey’s General Store RV Sites in Palmyra Nebraska offers a handful of full hookup RV camping sites behind a rural fueling station just off NE 2. Easily accessed for any size RV the sites are on packed gravel and provide an easy place to stop for the night. Self contained units only guests do have access to the fueling station restrooms but no showers are available.

    Bob’s Campground in Randolph Nebraska offers full hookup RV sites on concrete pads in a small rural town. Within walking distance of the local park, restaurants and library the location is very inexpensive and very easy to access. Suitable for overnight or longer term stays the RV park is located in a community located along US 20

    Meridian Bridge RV Resort in South Yankton Nebraska offers full hookup RV camping along the shores of the Missouri River.

    Streeter Park Campground in Aurora Nebraska offers partial hookup RV and tent camping on a first come first served basis for free (3 night max donations accepted). The city run park has an adjoining updated aquatic center (fee required), trails, and playgrounds.

    Off Road Ranch RV Park in Norfolk Nebraska offers full hookup RV camping on a 30 acre property with multiple off road riding courses and challenges.

    Flying Bee Ranch in Bayard Nebraska offers partial hookup RV camping in a remote setting on a working cattel ranch.

    Sunny Meadows Campground in Elm Creek Nebraska offers full hookup RV and tent camping in a gravel lot. Convenient for overnight stays.

    Lancaster Event Center in Lincoln Nebraska offers partial hookup RV camping for self contained rigs.

    Gilman Park Camping in Pierce Nebraska provides camping in a city run park adjacent to an Arboretum.

    Cheyenne State Recreation Area in Wood River Nebraska is a former wayside area with a 15 acre pond. First come, first serve primitive RV and tent camping adjacent to a small fishing pond adjacent to the interstate. I80 Exit 300.

    Niobrara State Park in Niobrara Nebraska offers partial hookup RV and tent camping at the confluence of the Missouri and Niobrara Rivers. Ample outdoor activities and wildlife highlight this location.

    Red Willow Reservoir State Recreation Area in McCook Nebraska provides partial and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent camping sites adjacent to a recreational lake. Some of the finest fishing and hunting in the state are found at Red Willow, and the are has excellent facilities for camping and water-oriented recreation.

    Riverview Marina State Recreation Area Campground in Nebraska City Nebraska offers partial (electric) and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent camping sites. With immediate access to the Missouri River the campground is set in a pretty setting with all sites on mowed grass and some under large shade trees. 20 and 30 amp pedestals are available as are sites dispersed on the grass. A small playground is available as are two bathrooms with running water. A couple water spigots are available in the camping area also. The primary draw for this park is the paved boat launch and large paved parking area to access the Missouri River. Entry and camping fees are paid via a self service station.

    Accessed via a paved road the campsites can easily handle the largest RVs on the road with the only caveat being that getting to the campground is a bit tricky. From Central St (the road used by Oregon Trail travelers after the ferry boat landing) campers travel north on 6th St to 8th Ave turning East to 4th St and then North again to the campground. Drivers will cross a 15 ton weight limit bridge and navigate through narrow neighborhood roads. The trip is suitable and navigable for experienced drivers but does require some caution.

    The Missouri River is home to invasive mussel species so travelers who launch boats, canoes and kayaks MUST ensure they full drain and dry their water-craft before launching the unit in another body of water. One small drop of water is all it takes to spread these species.

    Camping rates are inexpensive at about $9 for primitive and $16 for electric hookups. An additional fee is charge per car with total rates of $22-$24 per night.
