My Comments

New Brighton State Beach - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- New Brighton is a wonderfully developed state campground within easy walking distance of the ocean. It sits on a flat outcropping about 50 feet above the beach. If you are lucky enough to get your reservation in early, you can secure one of the 10 premium sites which overlook the ocean. The campground has a selection of premium sites, water/elect hook up sites, dry camping sites, and tent sites. Note that premium sites have the view but no hook ups. If you require hookups, you'll have to forego the premium sites with the best view. One of life's trade offs :) Amenities: Restrooms are cleaned daily. Showers are available for a modest fee of a few quarters. Grocery stores are located within a mile. You are in luck if you have dogs. This is one of the few areas where you take your canine buddies on the beach. Santa Cruz has a number of dog-friendly areas - do a web search. Did you know your campground reservation also gets you into all other state parks. Save the $10 fee when you visit other great nearby state parks including Natural Bridges SP (tide pools), Henry Cowell Redwoods SP (big trees), and Big Basin SP (great hiking). Kayakers get a special treat at Elkhorn Slough, located about 25 minutes south at Moss Landing. You'll see otters, sea lions, and the bird aviary. We were blessed to see a jelly fish and small manta. Don't have a kayak - rent one at the 2 shops located in Moss Landing. This is trip location to savor. Plan for 3+ days to ensure you take it all in.
