Carter Lake Campgrounds - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- After $1.3 million in upgrades, Carter Lake, Colo.’s South Shore campground reopened Sunday (April 15) with a brand new loop of 21 campsites, more parking, new bathrooms, an expanded boat ramp and a refigured entrance, according to the Reporter-Herald. “It’s exciting,” said Dan Rieves, the Carter Lake district manager for the Larimer County Department of Natural Resources. “We have 21 more families every weekend that aren’t getting turned away.” The new campsites are the first added to Carter Lake, as well as nearby Pinewood and Flatiron reservoirs for more than 20 years, and the existing sites — 180 between all three locations — quickly fill up every weekend throughout the summer. In fact, all the previous campsites are full for this weekend, so the first campers in the new area were booked as overflow sites. South Shore closed when the camping season wrapped up in September with construction occurring throughout the fall and winter in the campground near the water’s southern edge.

Grand Texas RV Resort - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Grand Texas Sports and Entertainment District will open its long-awaited water and adventure parks in New Caney, Texas, this summer, according to the Houston Business Journal. Big Rivers Waterpark and Gator Bayou Adventure Park will open their gates June 29, according to a press release. Grand Texas has also begun selling tickets online, including an annual pass that offers unlimited access to the park and discounts on merchandise and other activities. Grand Texas held a groundbreaking ceremony for the two parks last December after the project faced several delays. In March, the developer secured three USDA Rural Development Business & Industry loans totaling $20 million for the water park, adventure park and parking. “Construction is going phenomenally well,” Monty Galland, Grand Texas CEO, said in the April 11 release. “We had hoped to open earlier, but building the area’s only adventure park, and what we believe will be the area’s best waterpark, is a complicated task. It will be worth the wait.” Plans for the water park include a lazy river, interactive play structure, wave pool, waterslides and other activities. The adventure park, meanwhile, is expected to have zip lines, challenge courses, nature trails, a seven-story free-fall tower, petting zoo, maze and more. Both parks will be a total of 80 acres on the 630-acre venue and will include educational aspects to help guests learn about Texas rivers and wildlife. Other parts of the entertainment development, located at Highway 242 and Interstate 69, have already debuted. Grand Texas RV Resort opened in August 2016, and the SpeedSportz Racing Park held its soft opening in December 2016.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Officials with the Louisiana Office of State Parks disclosed this week that the campground facilities at Lake Fausse Point State Park are scheduled to reopen sometimes next month. Sharon S. Broussard with the OSP’s Public Relations Office said the electrical repairs to the campground’s 50 sites are 95 percent complete. She added that the department plans to do “a staggered soft opening” some time in May. “We are staggering the opening of campsites to anticipate any last minute repairs and allow for any need to move overnight visitors to working sites,” she added. The entire park was flooded in August 2016, with major damage to the campground, the park’s 18 cabins, the water splash pad and some of the nature trails. Since that time, the park has been open to only day use of the four large pavilions and boat launching. Regarding the popular cabins, Broussard that the repairs have been split into two projects. “The 11 cabins that have less damage will be bid out in the next 30 days. We will use in-house staff to make updates to the cabins, things like switching out light fixtures and fans, and painting. These 11 cabins should be reopened by late summer or early fall. The other seven cabins have extensive damage to their subfloors and will require more repairs and are anticipated to reopen by late winter/early spring 2019.

Silverwood Theme Park RV Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Coeur d'Alene, Idaho – Silverwood Theme Park has canceled its annual firework show due to safety and environmental concerns. The theme park said in a release that it understands the community looks forward to this event every year but has decided it is in the community's best interest to cancel the show indefinitely. The release reads, “The fire season has had a huge effect on the surrounding areas the last few years and if something were to happen during our show it would be devastating to our community.” Silverwood will continue to decorate the park for the Fourth of July and will be in full operation. Anyone who has already made their RV Park reservations for this date and would like to move them to a different date can call Guest Relations at 208-216-4420.

Lofton Creek Campground - My Rating is out of 5 -- You will need to contact the park.

Moundsville RV Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- "We have 30 spaces and according to our city manager, we have them all secure, which is 30 sites we're able to use now,” said Moundsville Vice Mayor Phil Remke. “When you consider 30 spaces at $650 a space, over a period of time we can probably bring in close to $234,000."

Grand Canyon Trailer Village RV Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- GRAND CANYON, Ariz. – Residents and visitors to Grand Canyon National Park continue to reduce water consumption and implement sustainable water conservation practices. These efforts have allowed the park to continue to refill water storage tanks to sustainable levels. As a result the park is modifying Level 3 water restrictions to allow Camper Services to reopen. Camper Services, operated by Delaware North Companies, provides showers, laundry and an RV dump and fill station and will be open for business today at 2:30 p.m.

Twin Bridge Meadow Family Campground - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Under new ownership the park has been cleaned up and revitalized.

Brush Creek Park Campground - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Construction is underway on installing recreation vehicle pads and hookups at the Brush Creek campground, as well as two more pavilions.

The MotorCoach Resort - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Overall a very nice RV park placed in a difficult location. Sandwiched by commercial businesses and the interstate the wide open parking sites and the "catering to coaches" thing works to create an air of exclusivity that allows them to charge higher rates and draw guests in. Convenient for travelers there is a drawback that you will need to unhook the tow vehicle in order to exit (back out of the site); all of the sites are pull ins. The central communal area is very large and has a wide concrete path meandering through dunes of desert gravel with a few desert plants. Their website does them no justice so hopefully our photos and videos will help. The park has a racing themed logo mirroring the logo and look of the neighboring RV storage area that owns and manages the park. The main office is located across the street at the RV storage yard entrance (do not pull in there with a coach). There is a self checkin board upon entering the park. There is no security but the area is relatively free of problems. A Love's gas station is located along the entrance road for easy fill-ups. Nightly rates range from $55 in the warm months to $65 in the winter months for nightly rates. Discounts may be available for longer term stays. There is nothing of interest within walking distance so you will need to drive to places like the Tanger Outlets, Wildhorse Casino or Chandler Mall. There is constant noise from the Interstate that will vary with volume depending upon the direction of the breeze. The park does have some small sound fences between the sites and the highway but if you are booking picking a site further away has its benefits. Verizon 4G is solid.

Ventura Ranch KOA at Steckel Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Hit by the Thomas Fire they are still waiting to clean up. "what we have is 148 total sites — some of the sites where we have no structures we’ve been able to rebuild those already. We have about 25-30 sites up and operating, and completely full with long-term guests. That’s helped our financial performance at this point. We’re still cleaning up. We try to do a little bit every day of cleaning up sites that do not have structures, because those are the areas we cannot touch. I’m expecting if we get clearance in the next 30 days to clean up we will probably have 80% of the campground back up and operating by the first of August."

McGrath State Beach Campground - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- McGrath State Beach will open a limited number of campsites Friday after floodwater again receded from the oft-closed state park. The popular campground near Ventura Harbor opened for about four months last year, but closed in January when water started creeping back into the park. In a sort of revolving door of flooding and drying out, McGrath seasonally floods as water builds up in a nearby estuary. During the recent drought, however, campsites remained underwater and closed more often than not.

Holland State Park Campground - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- "Crews have stayed busy removing bumpy and crumbling asphalt, digging shoulders out in preparation for widening roads and curves, digging several sites out in preparation of paving them and last but not least, BIG improvements to our dump station," park staff said on Facebook. The opening date for the campground has been pushed back to May 10 so all the work can be finished, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources said earlier this year. The sanitation station updates will accommodate the larger RVs and camping trailers that now use the park.

Fredericksburg Texas KOA - My Rating is out of 5 -- FYI it is standard KOA policy to charge additional fees for more guests.

West Glacier RV Park and Cabins - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- "The public has been given longer to comment on part of a big, new RV park outside Glacier National Park that was approved by Flathead County last year. The state department of Environmental Quality is now considering permits for water, wastewater, storm runoff, and solid waste management from Glacier Park, Inc. The company plans to develop a 42-space RV park with 25 rental cabins." This delay will likely push back this park opening in to 2019.

Maquoketa Caves State Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- The popular Maquoketa Caves State Park will be closed for the summer due to construction. According to the Iowa DNR all of Maquoketa Caves are closed due to road construction and electrical upgrades to the campground.

Ryerson Station State Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Major parts of the plan include renovation of the park campground, construction of a new swimming pool and splash ground and restoration of the stream within the former lake bed, including possible development of several ponds. The project will include constructing a shower house – the first shower facility at the campground – reconstructing the campground access road and building three new camping cottages. Two cottages are now at the site. The project also will entail providing sewage and water to six to eight of the 22 existing campsites. Construction of restrooms at the park’s day use area and renovations at the visitor’s center also will be completed in this phase. Construction of a new swimming pool and splash ground will be the next project on tap. Design plans, Johnson said, are about 95 percent complete.

Grand Rogue Campgrounds - My Rating is 3 out of 5 -- The Plainfield Township Board voted unanimously to purchase 83 acres with frontage on both the Rogue River and the Grand River, formerly operated as Grand Rogue Campground and Paddlesports, for $1,000,000, with $700,000 of that being paid for by the State of Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund. Status is unknown for camping

Cottonwood Campground - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Big Bend National Park has completed a deferred maintenance project in Cottonwood Campground this February. The park replaced out-of-date irrigation piping and valves, and re-graded areas to facilitate proper flood irrigation. The Cottonwood Campground, including group sites, reopened March 1. This project helped in reducing the nearly $90 million in deferred maintenance projects at Big Bend National Park, and improvements provide a well-maintained campground for visitor enjoyment.

Salt Rock State Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- State officials are making plans to reopen shuttered campgrounds, expand lifeguard coverage and hire more seasonal workers, thanks to a new funding stream for Connecticut's 110 state parks. It will mark the first time in two years the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has had the financial resources to take such steps. State budget problems had forced the agency to scale back. The General Assembly came up with the Passport to Parks initiative.

American Campground - My Rating is 3 out of 5 -- This RV park has new owners that are actively evicting long term tenants from the property. Blame is being cast on the city which has an existing ordinance preventing long term stays at campgrounds/ RV parks. The new owner is attempting to bring the property up to code and as a result is evicting long term tenants.

Denver Meadows RV Park - My Rating is 1 out of 5 -- This park will be closing as of June 30, 2018. "That is when the mobile-home park Denver Meadows is set to close. Its owner, Shawn Lustigman, hasn’t said what he wants to do with the place. He could sell it or he could redevelop it — either way, he said, the place is closing."

Gilchrist Blue Springs State Park - My Rating is 4 out of 5 -- Now a state park the property is being improved gradually.

Castaic Lake RV Park - My Rating is 1 out of 5 -- (Review from Youtube video comments) From: Anna Kelley Stay away from Castaic RV park in Castaic CA, north of Los Angeles. We made reservations for their park a few days ago. Finding reservations on short notice is hard since we have a 44ft rv and dogs. We arrive around 12pm, checkout is 11. There is someone in our spot, that we requested. The girl working said her dad would move the other trailer. I'm waiting for confirmation, my boyfriend comes in and asks what's going on. She explains and he says ok and goes back to wait in the car with our pets, in the heat. 45 minutes later they haven't moved it we are still waiting. We call and the girl says her dad is going to move it soon. 15 minutes later he comes out and says he's refusing us service because we are rude. Literally we waited an hour in the heat, had already paid and it was not easy finding another park. Not to mention the park itself is garbage. Tons of full timers there with trash and gross setups outside their rigs. Almost no amenities and beyond rude staff. I'm not normally one to write this sort of stuff but absolutely horrible!!! STAY AWAY. We thankfully got a spot at Valencia travel village. Albeit more expensive but much nicer, full hookups, nice staff and tons of amenities. I'll say it again: stay away from Castaic rv park!

Mustang Island State Park Campground - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- On March 1 Mustang Island State Park will re-open to DAY USE ONLY. (from "No overnight camping will be allowed, and the park will close at sunset, they said." They will continue to work to return services.

Hunting Island State Park - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Spots are - finally - open at the new and improved Hunting Island The park continues its path forward next week, with the campground scheduled to reopen Feb. 1. The new-look campground includes 100 tent and RV sites with upgraded electrical hookups at each site. Reservations are being accepted. More than 80 oceanfront sites were lost during Hurricane Matthew in late 2016 and not replaced. Four bathhouses at the park were renovated after the storm and now open.

Pinnacles Campground - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Amazing area and while the campground is nothing to write home about this is one of the few places you can go and get away from it all. Perfect spot to tent camp or bring a small RV.

Hollywood KOA - My Rating is out of 5 -- Editor note: We have contacted the owner, Pat, at Hollywood KOA to verify this review. Due to the popularity of the location and the number of reservations they turn away in order to hold a reservation for a 1 month stay the park has a very strict cancellation and deposit policy. As of right now that policy is a mandatory non-refundable, for any reason, $400 deposit per month.

Palm Springs / Joshua Tree KOA - My Rating is 4 out of 5 -- The park is now a KOA. There have been some serious upgrades and sprucing up of the many sites in the park. The office staff does a good job spacing out RVs to use up the 200 plus site park smartly; giving guests good room between sites. The pool and spa area is still the highlight of the facility and very nice. We fit our huge RV in to a 30 amp backin with room to stay hooked up. New picnic tables have been placed at every site and each site is raked to smooth the rocks between guests (a nice touch). They have added comfort cleaning sinks to the grounds, improved the office into a store, painted signs, poles and buildings, re-surfaced the black-top, cleaned up the mini-golf, added a k-9 area and over-all improved the facility. Now that the park is a KOA it is drawing in a more diverse range of campers including tourists, families and seniors. The park has a pickle-ball court and playground area. For off-roaders hundreds of miles of roads can be found in the area including some popular back-country routes into Joshua Tree National Park. Located on Dillon Rd, the scenic route on the north side of the Coachella Valley, guests can also ride bikes or hike in to the desert (note this is the real desert and you need to be prepared with maps and navigational aids). Verizon coverage is solid. The nightly rate is $45 per night for the 30 amp backin with 50 amp sites in the $55 per night range. This pricing fits in with the standard KOA pricing structure and judging by the larger volume of guests is working to the parks advantage. (clearly the price is not scaring people away and they are providing improved facilities). We visited Joshua Tree National Park while staying here and it was only a 45 minute drive into the main entrance. We found it was a lot more fun exploring the mountains above this park instead of the National Park. Look up Long Canyon for a nearby dirt road adventure that is easy and short. Search out Berdoo Canyon if you want a real adventure via high clearance 4 wheel drive, dirt bike, mountain bike or hiking. Palm Springs / Joshua Tree KOA fits a needed category of RV park in this region providing family friendly amenities in an area over-run with retirement/ senior style parks. I am sure it will be a popular choice in the area.

The state park, as reported by the Herald Tribune (, has been severly damaged with the prime ocean facing RV sites completely wiped out by the hurricane. "There are facilities such as a temporary bathroom and a makeshift set of showers. Also a chain-link fence that keeps people from the entire Atlantic Ocean side of the place." The park was heavily impacted by Hurricane Harvey, and park officials are still assessing the damages. While the beach itself held up well, Rick Meyers, region director for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, said he cannot predict when the state park will reopen. “What we’re dealing with currently is a badly damaged headquarters,” he said. “The day-use booth is totally gone; restroom and showers totally gone; resident housing is destroyed.”

Sugarloaf Key / Key West KOA - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Recent update on the status of this park: Due to Hurricane Irma damage the park will be closed to the public until at least January 1, 2018. Rental cabins on the property will likely all have to be replaced. Will likely be open to guests on a very limited basis between January 1 and March 31. The campground will resemble a “work camp” while the bulk of the rebuilding efforts are under way from January 1 to October 15, 2018. 100 percent of the repair and rebuilt work triggered by Hurricane Irma should be completed by March 31, 2019

Hunting Island State Park - My Rating is out of 5 -- Note as of 2016/ 2017 this campground is closed for an unknown period of time following Hurricane Mathew. Plans are being made to redevelop the park. From news reports: Among the damages and plans at Hunting Island: ▪ The dunes were wiped out, destroying the oceanfront campground. A planned beach renourishment project is at least a year away. ▪ Massive debris removal is underway. About 75 percent of the cost will be covered by federal emergency money. ▪ 450 parking spots were lost, and only 200 of those are expected to be replaced. Park officials want to work with Beaufort County to find an off-site parking area for a shuttle service during the summer and busy weekends. ▪ Roads were badly damaged, some under water for a month after the storm. Repairs are estimated at $2.5 million. ▪ Two of the four bathroom and shower facilities were destroyed, and the remaining two damaged and now threatened by erosion. The needs come as the state park service had already identified $100 million in statewide deferred maintenance to facilities, roads, bridges and dams, its report to lawmakers said. Parks officials marked about $15 million of those projects as critical needs. Among the park system’s priorities are reopening the money-generating campgrounds at Hunting Island and Edisto Beach state parks, restoring Hunting Island beach access and cleaning up the lighthouse area. Parts of Hunting Island are already on the way back. The nature center and part of the fishing pier opened last year, not long after the storm. Read more here:

El Paso West / Anthony KOA - My Rating is 3 out of 5 -- It has recently been taken over/ changed to a KOA. We visited this campground as a stopover, having been in state and national parks for a while without full hook-ups, so our requirements for this park were that it had hook-ups (it does), a functioning laundry (it's clean, functional and good value - $1 a machine), decent wifi for planning our next moves (fast and reliable), and close to shops as we needed to get food, go to Lowe's, get some clothes etc. In these respects the site met all of our expectations and the people who run it are very friendly. It is very clean and the sites are level and all pull-throughs. We were surprised, given the brand, that it didn't have more of a resort feel (having been in other KOAs), but for us it wasn't a problem, as we were only there over night. It's not a campground that you would want to use to sit back and relax in, there is no privacy or shade in the sites, it's really just a big parking lot. If you need function over form and need to be close to El Paso, then this is for you.

San Benito County Fair RV Camping - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- Admin note: This location has super fast Verizon 4G coverage!

Branched Oak State Recreation Area Campground - My Rating is 5 out of 5 -- One of the best campgrounds we have ever visited. As noted in the description they offer only 12 full hookup sites but we stayed in October during the week and arrived without reservations to stay in site 77 for 3 days. Nebraska uses Reserve America so avoiding reservations saves $7 enough to cover one day of one vehicle entrance fee. The full hookup sites are only $26 per night BUT you also have to pay per motorized vehicle (in our case 2) $5 each = $10 per day extra. Even at $36 per night it is still reasonable. If you can do with partial hookups it is even cheaper. The best sites are 71-77 for the full-hookup sites as they all backup and overhang a slope that then overlooks the western arm of the lake. Amazing views and a short walk down to the picnic area, small sandy beach and playground. There are some fun little single track biking, hiking, horsebacking trails that depart from this area. In addition the paved roads looping around the lake are lightly traveled and make for a solid 11 mile loop, through in an out and back to the Area 3-8 peninsula and you have a 13 mile ride. (South Shore Campground or Area 1) Verizon 4G was 4 bars solid and fast. Over the air digital TV was excellent. Nights were quiet and neighbors were great... all i all a very special campground near Lincoln Nebraska. We would absolutely return again if passing through.
